IAx86 16/32/64

When I was 17 I got a copy of Borland C++ 3.0 -- about 30min after writing my first C program I learned that the compiler came with TASM and instantly jumped into assembly.

My early assembly experience was with integrating QBasic. Spent a lot of time copying debug scripts from magazines. Eventually I developed Mouse routines, graphics routines, and XMS memory routines for use with QBasic. I had the coolest QBasic programs on the block!

Later my interest was in integrating MMX into my graphics programs -- actually did not get very far on this because I had to relearn a good deal moving from 16 to 32. Recently I have been working with 64bit. I just ordered a book on the SSE extensions.

I wish you & I could have been friends in real life years ago. I couldn't find anyone that even knew was a compiler was, let alone assembler.

I've done some work on a 16bit boot-loader, as well as some general concepts in x86 with MASM & Nasm. A few years ago I gained an interest in 6502 assembler for the 8bit Nes, but have not done much with it.

Not sure about Assembly but disassembly is my sweetie. Haven't run into a commercial software that couldn't be sliced open. I'll be glad to help anyone on the Windows platform running Olly or IDA. No illegal cracking requests of course.

Know 8051 Assembly pretty well. Just started getting the hang of 8086 . Have both as part of my engineering course.

Learning x86 asm for Linux/GCC fairly quickly. I'm using Professional Assembly Language by Richard Blum. I'm learning disassembly along side since I (like most people) disassemble to assembly. I'm also trying to work out a simple 16 bit bootstrapper for a proof of concept OS I'm developing in C and assembly.

Wow -- quite a lot of experience in different platforms -- may I ask how you came to have experience with so many? I am lucky to be able to use x86 every once in a blue moon.

Not to risk violating any rules of self-promotion, I've been programming since around 1978.

I don't think we have rules against self-promotion... blog promotion maybe but if you want to toot your own horn go for it. Be forwarned though that programmer's on a whole tend to be a prickly bunch who get irritated by too much bravado.

1978 gives you quite a bit more time around the old bit bucket than I have. I began programming since 1992 with a Tandy CoCo II (1980's tech).

I started out with 16 bit Assembly Language for 8086 and progressed to 32-bit and 64-bit assembly language.
A few years later, my course required me to study the IBM 360 (yeah, that's from the 60's lol)

Once I became well versed with asm, I started studying compilers, reverse engineering and copy protections on various systems.

I've even presented a technical paper on Application Security using Reverse Engineering in my first year of college.

Lately you can find me (legally) reversing applications on crackmes.de and I urge all reversers (n00bs and pros alike) to try their hand at reversing there.

In fact, I challenge all reversers to hack my keygenme app here.
