I recently had my exam results. Well...The Results aren't the point...lol...the thing is that in Comp. Science Paper I got a straight -1 for like every code that i wrote and you know why?????

The Examiner circled all my comments and wrote -1 next to them.
I got so pissed with her....On asking her what's wrong with it...and I got such a stupid reply:" Comments aren't required..."
Hello...I wrote comments so that you could understand it better...and -1 for each question ??? WTF....All My Programs were correct.....

I'm really pissed...And i can't believe I have her as my teacher for another year......talk about torture to the nth degree!!!!

it's at that point that you go so far out of your way to make your programs as complex as possible... for instance, instead of just echoing out text... echo out the ascii values instead.

Instead of nameing your variables really easy to understand names... name them off the wall names like bob1, frank2, sally3.

Name your functions Fine(), YouDontLike() Comments() HowsThisBitch()

unless they specify "DO NOT WRITE COMMENTS.", i'm pretty sure you can challenge this with someone. dont' just take it.

imagine you're taking a math exam... would you lose marks for writing things like "solving for X"... "getting value of Y using quadratic formula..." etc..

Damn...that's a low point alright, born2code. I mean, commented code is (rightly so) industry standard, all you were doing was adheing to standards, and making it easier for others to understand (and in the industry, maintain) your code...I'd think that she'd want to encourage that.

I know...But I mean...What action can I take against her? If i tell the principal then obviously he'll believe the teacher....and not me....Guess I just have to spend one year being mentally tortured...

wow... way to give into the system... see if you were in the military and you didn't want to question authority, i could understand, but you're in school... that's why the teachers are there -- to make sure you learn and when you think you've learned to the point that you know you're right, you have the right (in any state) to challenge the teacher because she's human too and she makes mistakes

if i challenge my authorities, they take 1/2 my pay for two months and i can lose rank... a little more harsh

apples and oranges...you're getting paid to do what your told, he's in school. I'm not in the service, I work for a private company, and while I'm free to discuss alternate methods with my bosses, you better believe that they've got the final say, like any job.

Yea...School Sux...It's like a place where dictatorship is practised...I know a lot of guys who know math better than the teachers here...but still they're made to stoop to a horribly low level in front of the teachers....I'm waiting to pass out of it...

man that just sux, Somtimes teachers are stupid like that, take it to the principle and tell him that comments only make the code better not worse.

I recently went through the same thing in Comp Science, Grade 12! No where on the assignment paper did it say specifically no comments and i added it in for the same reasons! ( to understand it better). He marks our projects in like 3 sections one is code and it was out of 10.... and i got a lousy 5 out of 10 with a comment saying no comments needed... so i wrote him back a note on the marking sheet saying take your own advice... was sent to the principal.... and basically told from him that comments such as my comment to the teacher wasnt needed so now i just keep my mouth shut and bitch about it to someone else!
