Slow fps in my 3D OpenGL game

Posted 18 May 2009 - 10:45 AM

I am having a problem with very slow performance in a OpenGL project I am working on. To isolate the problem I have disabled the game state from updating, so the same frame just sits there and renders with a spaceship model and a skybox with 6 512x512 textures applied.

I have even disabled lighting. Without textures on the skybox, I get about 40 fps, but with the textures applied my fps drop to around 8.

I am using C++ with GLUT and DevIL to load the images.

Thanks for any advice and getting the fps up; Im sure Im doing something wrong somewhere!

What kind of hardware are you working with? Have you tried running it on a more powerful machine?

And if we see the source code, we can see if you're using improper timing.

So it turns out that even when I run some example skybox code from the web I get similar performance. I guess I had more faith than I should have in my video card :/ Im using the Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset.

However, I am running windows 7 RC and it could be a driver issue right? Ill look into it.
Thanks!
