Time to choose a laptop for school....

Posted 19 May 2009 - 07:04 PM

So its time to start to choose a laptop for school, as well as work this summer. The laptop market is FLOODED with option. Netbook? Macbook? PC Laptop? The options!

I was considering a netbook, and using it as a remote login frontend to my desktop for the most part. I only do web design and code so I don't need to intensive of a machine...but which one? Dells Mini? HP? Asus?

At the same time, the new Macbook looks great. Solid, durable, powerful, and amazing support. Its these reason it live up beyond its hype.

While at the same time, ofcourse a simple PC laptop wouldn't be a bad choice. I just want something as strong as the Macbooks single sheet CNC milled aluminum body, and a warranty as good as Applecare.

So I'm completely lost. Where to go...I'm up for any suggestions! Whats everyone using? What is there to love and to hate?

Thanks for the help!

I ended up getting a desktop replacement laptop, which cost a pretty penny. I would have rather got a cheapo laptop for taking to class and built my own desktop for gaming and things that require a faster computer. I probably would have even saved money buying the two. (I wish I had)

IDK, if you do a lot of web design and photo editing and manipulating for the sites, I would highly suggest a mac, however if you're just looking for something to run around with and not worry about scratching and hurting a bit a cheap little laptop would be good.

I know I run an HP Pavilion DV6500 laptop with 1.5gigs of ram and only about 35gb of HDD on my win side adn 47gb on my linux side. I also do programming only and use it solely to search the web and pass the time while coding.

It all depends on what you wanna do with it. If youw ant something with an extraordinary service line and warranty service, Mac's are notorious, not to mention I haven't heard one person complain about their mac crashing. Win based laptops aren't bad at all, I have no quarrels with mine, however I do have all kinds of security software to keep the critters out of my speed wheel ya know?

I work on a HP dv6000. Its an older laptop running 2GB and 120GB Harddrive, and it does anything i want it to. I use it for coding and web design for the most part. It's held up well. The mother board did die, but HP replaced it out of warranty for free. I sent the PC in and got it back in less than a week. Which was good because I was in the middle of a project for school. HP definitely has the customer care down.
