Gotta agree with William

Get off your ass, get out of your parents house, and become a productive, self sufficient part of society and quit suckling from the proverbial parental teet. Then not only can you have your XBox account, but you can walk around your house naked and enjoy the company of prostitutes in the privacy of your own place. Kinda awkward when you have to introduce her to mommy on the way back to your bedroom.

I was 20 when I moved out and haven't taken a penny from my parents since (other than the occasional dinner).

I've been on my own since I was 16 (things were different in Georgia that many years ago) and been an employed, productive member of society since. I agree with the 21 rule, most people I know that are that young (remember I have a son who will be 18 in 2 months) aren't responsible enough to have a credit card. Plus kids today seem to think the world owes them something, like they have somehow become worth of having things handed to them just because they breath.

Kids today are so spoiled, and expect things to just be handed to them.

Since everyone here is hell bent on getting the government to take command and control of our lives, why not introduce a graduated credit card? It would be similar to the step program for driver licenses, at 15 you get the permit, 16 you can have your parent and 1 guest in the car, etc... i think Washington has this in place. Do the same with the credit card, have very small charge limits and TEACH your kids how to use a credit card.

It isn't that hard, its the parents' job, not the government. I've never missed a payment or never not paid my balance in full each month.

KYA it's not hell bent on having the government control our lives, it's not letting irresponsible teenagers get credit cards they cant/wont pay for and putting even more stress of an already over stressed credit market. You are the exception to the rule from the sounds of it, most 18 year old kids just aren't mature enough for the responsibility of a credit card (and once I again I speak from experience since I have a teenage child).

You have this issue where you believe the Government has no rights whatsoever, well I got news for you, they do. If banks aren't going to stop their predatory ways then someone has to do something, we cant expect every market to police itself (we've already proven that that doesn't work, look at Wall Street). So if these industries aren't going to police themselves, who should do it? You? Me? I don't think so, the next logical step would be the Government)

You're kind of funny, complaining about the Government trying to control out lives, yet it's your Republican party that has been trying for years and years now to overturn Roe vs Wade, now if that's not trying to control lives then I guess I don't know what is. You seem to bitch about it when it doesn't suit your needs, it's OK for the Government to say that gays cant marry, or that women aren't allowed to make decisions about their own bodies, but when it's something that actually makes sense then they need to stop trying to control our lives.

And I truly believe if the government wasn't handing out money left and right, then the market would police itself. Eventually, if a bank does too much predatory lending, it will not have the cash flowing in and they will fall. It's called bad business practices.

The state of our economy proves that the banking industry cannot police itself, or the economy wouldn't have fallen into a free fall as it has. The Government is handing out money trying to fix the problem (McCain would have done the same, in fact it's the Bush administration that started it, they just had an epic fail when they implemented it)

You know, during the Great Depression they all figured it would work itself out as well, and we all know about those extremely dark years in our history, so I completely and utterly disagree with the idea that it would have worked itself out.

There is another school of thought that the New Deal lengthened the Great Depression. I don't necessarily agree with that, BUT FDR spent the money wisely, i.e. putting people to work. Back then most people did not need/expect/want "high tech" jobs, so manual labor on such a large scale worked fine. This same concept would apply today, but building roads and such won't. I was intrigued by a comment Obama made recently, paraphrasing "We're going to stimulate the economy by creating the next green energy, tech, etc... and sell it to the rest of the world". Brilliant, where the HELL is that? We're shoving money out the god damn door to banks who should not get it. If we capitalize on the next "big" thing, we'll climb out of the hole and then some.

I am still in high school as well. The reaseon they did it is because they think I play it to much, when I have not logged on in a good while. So their reason is not all that valid.
My credit card is also my debit card at the same time. Im with wachovia.
