I will highlight that the suggestions of people here to move out and man up and such and such are at the very least resentful and show that those of you who adopted said stance couldn't find a mature resolution to your problem.

Of my high-school friends, I'm the only one that ever moved out. How's that for a mature solution.

I also didn't do so until I was 20. But I didn't bitch about my rights living there. I knew & respected their rules.

I also had to buy my own V.C.R., telephone service, online service, my 1st (& every) car, my own auto insurance, ect. At the age of 16 the only thing provided for me was food & a roof.

I don't feel my advice was at all resentful. As I suggested, he should respect his parents. How's that resentful? You either live by their rules or move out.

Honestly, the only place I've heard of that people move out by 18 or are considered "losers" is the US.

I've lived in Bolivia for about 12 years now and it's not uncommon for people to live with their parents until they graduate from college. Even then, sometimes the people stay until they are married.

Maybe that's why the US is screwed up in that area, social-wise.

My point wasn't that he needs to move out... it was if he is not happy with the decisions his parents are making and he can't resolve them then GTFO! Nothing wrong with living with your parents until you're financially stable and/or married. But if it's such a big deal you have to post about it on the internet, I'd say the solution is leave or suck it up.

You seem to bitch about it when it doesn't suit your needs, it's OK for the Government to say that gays cant marry, or that women aren't allowed to make decisions about their own bodies, but when it's something that actually makes sense then they need to stop trying to control our lives.

...............

*big rant and rave on choice vs. Choice (other wise know as pro-life) and Gay Marriage from a Biblical Perspective*

Sloth, I have a debit card, and I don't want a credit card. I don't see the need to buy what you can't afford in cash in the moment, excluding things like cars and houses and such....

KYA it's not hell bent on having the government control our lives, it's not letting irresponsible teenagers get credit cards they cant/wont pay for and putting even more stress of an already over stressed credit market. You are the exception to the rule from the sounds of it, most 18 year old kids just aren't mature enough for the responsibility of a credit card (and once I again I speak from experience since I have a teenage child).

You have this issue where you believe the Government has no rights whatsoever, well I got news for you, they do. If banks aren't going to stop their predatory ways then someone has to do something, we cant expect every market to police itself (we've already proven that that doesn't work, look at Wall Street). So if these industries aren't going to police themselves, who should do it? You? Me? I don't think so, the next logical step would be the Government)

You're kind of funny, complaining about the Government trying to control out lives, yet it's your Republican party that has been trying for years and years now to overturn Roe vs Wade, now if that's not trying to control lives then I guess I don't know what is. You seem to bitch about it when it doesn't suit your needs, it's OK for the Government to say that gays cant marry, or that women aren't allowed to make decisions about their own bodies, but when it's something that actually makes sense then they need to stop trying to control our lives.

You cant have it both ways my friend :)

OK
[redneck]
That first paragraph is a ton of bullshit. It is not the governments job to police the spending habits of 18 year olds. It just is not their job to infringe upon our personal lives like this. @ 18 They can die for their country, but can't drink a beer that they bought with their credit card? BULLSHIT! We lose our rights in this country day by day because everyone thinks the governments job is to be our mommy and daddy. My oldest (I have 4) is almost 17 and I'M HER PARENT. I don't expect the government to do my job and I don't WAN'T the government to do my job. That's the problem with the world today is noone can take reponsibility for themselves or for their own. It's always someone else's job or fault.

Roe vs Wade needs to be turned over because people use it AS A MEANS OF BIRTH CONTROL. However, it probably shouldn't be because our government isn't smart enough to still give the option to victims of rape or incest or to people who need it for emergency medical reasons.

Should he be on here whining? hell no. If you've got the money for an xbox account, then pay your parents rent if you don't wanna move out.
I speak from experience also. Many years ago when I was 18, I got in a fight with my parents and dad told me that if I walked out the door, don't come back, I didn't.
I moved out and stayed out.(we do have a good relationship now, though)

Oh, yeah, and Holden? EVERYONE here is right. Sorry dude, but you could at least pay em a reasonable rent for rights and privledges. If you want the world on a silver platter, then go get it and stop expecting it to be handed to you.(your not the same guy who hated his teacher because he thought he was smarter then they were, are you? If so, you should move out now, while you still know everything) Your parents didn't take your rights, you just haven't the cahones', the skillz, or maybe the cashflow(or maybe all 3 or a combo) to go out and take them(your rights)
Don't bitch, ACT!!!

[/redneck]
Sorry, didn't mean to ruffle feathers or hurt feelings, just call it like I see it.

Dude, 'tis true. I sympathize, with you, I do, but they are right. If you don't agree, pay for everything yourself. I am living with an Aunt and Uncle right now who have some crazy rules. However, I enjoy the convenience not having to pay all of the bills, and knowing I am going to have food provided, so put up with it. Their house, their rules. On the other hand, I am going to college, and have a job. I pay rent, albeit a lot cheaper than a lot of housing you can find, and I pay for my phone, and my phone bill. And I use my phone as I like. I don't pay for internet or T.V. and I use it as they like. Because I respect them, and while I can afford to live on my own, this is a hell of a lot cheaper. Man up and Deal with. Corinthians says:

"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When a became a man, I put childish ways behind me"

-NIV 1 Corinthian 13:11

Dude, man up. Talk to your parents, voice your complaints, as an adult, and if they put there foot down, respect it or move out.

@everyone else advising to man up.

As you should also. Men love. Men are compassionate. Do not put him down for seeking support. Use it as an opportunity to allow one of our brethren to grow, and to represent us appropriately. From my understanding, we are a community, not a group of selfish teenagers. A lot of previous posts were unnecessarily rude. You should not coddle, but "be devoted to one another in brotherly love"

Romans 12:10

You're really gonna hate the new Obama credit rules. They require a parent/co-signer to be ultimately responsible for any credit card you have prior to age 21.

But I'm with sloth on this one, you probably deserved it. Especially if you're still under your parents roof.

While that may be true they're at least keeping the credit card companies in line.

I have to find a card to balance transfer to because citi is a bunch of ass hats, their system put my payment in 12 hours too late and they jacked my interest from 11.2% to 28.99%.

The new rules would have prevented that. Especially since I have had it for almost 2 years and never been late or missed a payment except that one time.
