Because I'm bored, I might as well give you a history lesson.

Atheism. While the term for atheism existed since Ancient Greece, the first people to 'identify' as atheists didn't come around until the 18th century. Surprise! About the same time the Age of Enlightenment started! Now, if you don't know what the Age of Enlightenment was, I'm not explaining it to you.

Regardless, since then, the Age of Enlightenment is over and reason has fallen to the wayside as being the only way to discern truth. While it is still believed to have merit, the belief that ONLY reason can be used to explain everything is for the most part over according to sociologists. Know where I learned that? Sociology in college. Fun isn't it?

Also, random fact. Even to this day, only 2.3% of people identify themselves as Atheist. So I guess it's not as big a movement is it?

2.3% of people? Are you talking about people or people in your country? It doesn't really matter, anyway: it's you. You're the one who is wrong on the Internet.

I don't really give a crap if the statistic is right. I'm not a person that decides statistics. It said 2.3% of all people in the world. That doesn't negate the rest of it is right.

Regardless, obviously it is more than 2.3% of all people in the world as of 2005.

As for the age of enlightenment thing, we're currently in Post-Modernism.

Maybe 2.3% in America, but not the world. Europe has started to abandon religion more than America has. And just for the record, Atheists have ALWAYS existed since before the inception of religious/spiritual/theistic ideas came about. And no, the enlightenment wasn't the first atheistic movement. In fact, it wasn't an atheistic movement at all. The enlightenment was a philosophical movement designed at promoting the following:
1- basic civil rights
2- compulsory education
3- expanded suffrage
4- use of logic and reason

Neither the enlightenment nor the scientific revolution specifically targeted atheism either positively or negatively. I guess if people used the logic/reason to rule out religion, you could interpret it that way.

It's Xenu. <sarcasm>Don't you worship fictional gods created by the author of a science fiction novel? I know I spend every evening slitting my wrists and sacrificing my blood to the almighty.</sarcasm>
