With a single core Atom (I believe the model name is the '230'), you might run into some slowdowns when doing processor-intensive work. The Atom line is meant as a very low power piece of equipment that can surf the web, edit Word documents, listen to music and watch the occasional video. They're great little chips, but they're not a powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination.

A benchmark of the Atom, that might help you.

I have an atom in a netbook. The startup time is excellent. It's great for browsing the web, word processing, email, etc. The only real hindrance is flash content; the atom isn't powerful enough to handle most flash games without noticeable slowdown, and any flash videos can be rough.

i did a quick search, apparently the low memory count makes the IDE near unusable. not to mention the screen size...

I have an Acer Aspire One with an Intel Atom processor. It is pretty good for basic work, as document processing, web browsing and stuff like that. It was created for netbooks - extra portable mobile devices to experience all the rich features of the world wide web and user interaction. Those were not intended for graphical design, development or to support database servers.
