They're practically indistinguishable.

The Watchmen comic was a really good read (I honestly read it before I'd heard the movie was coming out).

The Watchmen was GREAT. Funny thing is, after I read the whole series for the first time, 2 months later they announce the movie. I'm like "WTF?!".
Talk about good timing.

There used to be a list somewhere of the dozens of comics slated to be movies. I can't find it now. As Hollywood takes even less risks, poaching from the past, other media, and just recycling story lines seems to be their only option. Other comic moves:
"30 Days of Night". This movie actually bored me. The ending was profoundly stupid. The graphic novel was a little more entertaining, still not bright.
"Wanted". Fun movie. Absurd, strangely telegraphs itself, but fun. Most amazing, the only real tie in to the graphic novel is the name of the main character. Which means it's more of an original work than anything. The comic is somewhat more traditional super hero fare, with our main character joining the super villain side and alternate realities. It's kind of a sociopathic romp. Saying things like "cunnalingus" in a comic book, that's just special.
