You know, I thought someone would go there; I just didn't know who. :P

Wanted

Quote

Wanted is a comic book limited series written by Mark Millar, with art by J. G. Jones. It was published by Top Cow in 2003 and 2004 as part of Millarworld.[1] It features an amoral protagonist who discovers he is the heir to a career as a supervillain assassin in a world where such villains have secretly taken control of the planet.

You owe it to yourself to read this, it's just plain fun. It doesn't have a twisted storyline like Watchmen and is more of a casual read, but dammit it excels at doing just that, entertain. Read this, ASAP!

ps. Cameo from one of the most feared Superheroes of all time is just AWESOME, but I won't spoil it.

Batman: Year One

Quote

The story recounts the beginning of Bruce Wayne's career as Batman and Jim Gordon's with the Gotham City Police Department.

Bruce Wayne returns home from training abroad in martial arts, manhunting and science for the past 12 years. Once back in Gotham City, he bides his time, waiting for the right moment to strike, all the while preparing himself. Gordon, meanwhile, has moved to Gotham from Chicago with his pregnant wife, Barbara Kean-Gordon, and continues his career in law enforcement.

Take two parts Max Payne, two parts Sin City and 3 parts Batman and you have a recipe for WIN. This comic is a great retelling of Batmans origins and who he really is. If you ever wanted to get into Batman you should start with this one.

If they are legal sources, then certainly. Links to illegal downloads will be removed.

Damn. No. Manga is a comic book >_>

Sorry - Manga are *not* comic books; just silly drawings. :pirate:

Odd, I've read the novels; didn't know they'd been drawn too.

Um, manga is a comic book form. There's honestly no way to support that it's not, other than ignorance. :P

So, I have to add:

Akira: classic.

Buddha: Since we always seem to get into Religion in the lounge. ;) The only reason I'm pointing to this one in particular is that I've read most of them. This is from Osamu Tezuka. While best known for "Astro Boy", he wrote on an amazing array of topics, Tezuka has been called Japan's Walk Disney as well as the father of manga.

V for Vendetta? I like the movie...

i like the story line of both the comic book and the movie. he's not even like batman with ninja skills, he's just too stubborn to die :P

any marvel comic is enjoyable!

@modi well, what is a comic book? it's certainly not like a regular book. a comic book is a book that is full of drawings, no? they don't have to have writings on them, even though the American genre does.

I know they are essentially drawings in book form, however, for simplicities sake please don't post any manga suggestions. This is the comic book suggestion thread. Let's not mix up two completely different things.

Thanks Baavgai ;)

Right... I guess because Alan Moore is from England he's right out? You may now chuck half the classics. I suppose we'll also loose Neil Gaiman.

The Adventures of Asterix? You can't really have any comic list without them. Oops, French.

Eflquest looks a lot like manga, but it isn't; guess it's still bad?

Comics is comics. Such bigotry is a little unnerving.

There used to be a list somewhere of the dozens of comics slated to be movies. I can't find it now. As Hollywood takes even less risks, poaching from the past, other media, and just recycling story lines seems to be their only option. Other comic moves:

"30 Days of Night". This movie actually bored me. The ending was profoundly stupid. The graphic novel was a little more entertaining, still not bright.

Didnt like either the movie or the comic, but I think the guy, Ben Templesmith, who illustrated the comic is awesome. He has among other things also done work with Warren Ellis:

Fell

The story is about Richard Fell, a homicide detective who has been reassigned to the city of Snowtown.
Probably the best new comic I have read in recent years.

Baavgai, that was a bit unnecessary. You know Fox meant western comics. No need to act that way.

And yes, if you want to contribute, only contribute western-esque comics. Nothing that has big googly eyes, spiky green haired girls or anyone yelling "ya-taaaaa". Thanks bro.
