Are you this mad at the creators of LimeWire, Ares, etc.? I'm sure at least 80% of you use a P2P software. :pirate:

Actually yes I am. I am a software developer, meaning I make my living from the creation of software, and it gets under my skin when people offers way of illegally obtaining either software, movies, music or the like

I think you might be a tad high there my friend. I truly doubt that 80%+ of DIC members use a P2P software. I for one have never, nor will I ever, had any pirated illegal software. I have worked hard for what I have, and it pisses me off to see people get it for free, with no effort whatsoever.

So I tried the program. All it does is download and open some bittorent file. So I'm not quite sure what's the point.

I mean, I'd rather just go to torrentz.com and do the search there. Then I will be able to choose the torrent that I want and will be able to see people's reviews, in case it has a virus.

Actually lots of us do engage in piracy/espionage for different reasons. Psycho is just overzealous, which is understandable for the kind of benefactors given. Both of those were already argued in another thread. However, what each of our personal sets of beliefs are is irrelevant here. The terms of use at this website disallows software/media piracy/espionage at all forms so there's no linking to sources or the kinds of tools used (like the Pirate Bay, ect.)

Personally I avoid torrenting because it's either really unstable and slow, insecure, and other problems. It's really useful only when there's a good torrent going and enough people are willing to seed. If you think about it, torrenting is a pretty dumb way to distribute illegal materials- I mean everyone can go in there and see you do it and spam your IP with threatening letters.

Dream In Code is a software development site. Most of the folks here are professional software developers, the exact people that software piracy effects. How can you not understand that?

I'm not tying to be a smart ass here, and I know I am in no position to be talking, for I have contributed very little, but doesn't this fall into "Software development"?

I totally agree with WolfCoder. I'm just saying the thread is (was?) just about someone who wrote something to go somewhere and get something. I think we all would agree that we here at DIC frown upon pirating, but encourage programming. I like the GUI. :P

Edit: In short: Pirating = Bad. Figuring out why something is not compatible on Window 7 = Normal. Right?

Since you quoted me... I'll go ahead & continue on my rant I suppose.

In my opinion it would still be bad. Why bother to figure out why something is compatible on Windows 7 if it's against your (well, our) beliefs?

You know, not all torrents are bad. Most Linux distros offer themselves on torrents (or free CDs that come by mail), and I do realize that the software that this thread is about isn't that kind of torrent (and is indeed an illegal kind), but some of you seem to be under the impression that torrents always have been and always will be bad in every way, shape or form...

Yours,
Shane~

@No2: I do see your point. Don't get me wrong. I was just saying that rather than posting our views on pirating, we should help solve the issue he is having. Perhaps he, or someone else has developed a program that is not compatible with Windows 7. I haven't used Windows 7, so I can't be of help.

Windows 7, Windows Vista & Window Server 2008 share the same basic kernel.
The 64 bit versions of those OS have stricter security policies. (Signed Drivers, No bit 16 bit code compatibility)
So if can get your software to work on Vista it'll work Windows 7.
Most causes of Vista problems (In my opinion) are caused by the programmer making assumptions about file locations and file access rights.

Sorry but he is not going to get much help with this software from this forum, that's not the kind of thing we do here. We help programmers yes, but we do not help with applications that facilitate illegal activities
