So I've googled around, and I can't figure out why this is happening. I have a pc with a Realtek Ac 97 sound card in it, with all the latest driver updates and everything. I have both a front port for head phones and a back, and they both are the same. When I have them plugged in, I can hear some fuzzy sound in the background, it's not that loud, but it is quite annoying when you don't have any other sound running on top of it. It's not my headphones because I've tried multiple different sets and they all have the same problem (even my Bose headphones seem to magnify it because of their high quality). I'm wondering if anyone on these forums knows what could be the cause. Do I need to get a new sound card?

Depending on the motherboard that you're using, there is a jumper on some that allow you to 'duplex' the sound from the back output to the front.

When this jumper is missing, there always seems to be an amount of 'background static' that eminates through the outputs.

That's what I believe could be your issue.

That or you're way too close to high voltage power lines.

Are you certain it isn't coming from the power supply? I would try a power strip with a higher joule rating.

Well that was my mistake bringing up a dead post.

I had been MIA from D.I.C. for a while and was confronted by a PM relating to this post by the author.

Maybe the fuzzing sound became lethal.
