Funny computer story of the day...

Post icon  Posted 16 June 2009 - 07:20 PM

I was talking with my cousin today. She just told me a computer story that I thought everybody here at DIC would like. She was taking an Office 2007 course at a local firm where my father lives. She was waiting for the instructor you aside from teaching courses on Microsoft products, sells and troubleshoots computer. He came into the class laughing his head off. My cousin asked, "What's so funny?"

He said, "I just got back from helping a middle aged couple learn how to use their computer. Last week I brought it to them and set every thing up. Flat screen monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, scanner/printer combination and set up their cable modem for the Internet. Well, they have been trying to get it to work for a week since I gave it to them and they haven't been able to."

"Well, what was the problem," my cousin asked.

"They said they had a hard time getting the mouse to work. They were having a hard time moving the pointer and clicking on things."

"Was there something wrong with the mouse?"

"No," he laughed. "They put the mouse pad and the mouse on the floor and were trying to use it like the peddle of a sewing machine!"

Ha Ha!

Those people must have no access at all to the outside world. How long have computers been out? Don't know how a mouse works, haha.

You can find that out just by watching TV.

This is one of those classics that you are never sure you believe until it happens to you. I thought it was just urban legend until I worked as tech support for HP, but then I got the call. Some dear old lady who had no idea what she was doing, had broken the cupholder on her PC.

Trying to explain it was a CD-ROM and not a cupholder was tricky, she really had no idea :)

Last night I dreamed I was working with my computer and for some reason I started formatting the hard drive. There was absolutely no reason why I would have to format the drive but I just couldn't stop it. Once it had started the process I could interrupt it but everything was destroyed and I was really annoyed since I now had to reinstall everything.
That's the kind of dream that makes you wake up all sweaty..

Actually, it's completely possible that the couple in the OP is actually my parents. For me being so into computers, they know absolutely nothing about them.

I had a customer who had virus infections on her desktop & her laptop. After two days I had her machine cleaned up & back in her possession. Since then she's had a knack for wringing me up & complaining about how she "paid all this money" & still has issues. Somehow her lack of knowledge about the computer has somehow bled into the fact that I removed some viruses.

At any rate, one time she went to far.

Somehow she had my cell number. I must have phoned her when I was on my way or something. So she calls me at home, on a Saturday around 7 am. I'm like.. dead asleep. I see the number, roll my eyes, wtf does she want at this hour?

"This stupid computer is froze... it froze last night & I figured it'd be better by the morning, so I shut it off & it's still froze up!"

So I ask her to click on caps lock...

"NO! It's not the keyboard, the stupid thing is locked up, click on the caps lock isn't going to do anything..."

Look, you phone me up at 7am on the weekend, we'll trouble shoot it my way or stop wasting my time, press caps lock again I ask.

"Ok NOW what?"

Well, what's the keyboard doing? Is the caps lock light coming on?

"Yes, of course it is!"

Then the PC isn't locked up... you're sure it's locked up?

"Yes, the mouse won't move, nothing does ANYTHING!"

*xcept the keyboard works...* Ok, lets do this, pick up your mouse, & take two steps back. Another two... two more. Do you see the other end of the mouse chord?

"Yeah..."

Then it's not plugged in.

"Well how the hell did it get unplugged?!"

I don't know, I'm going back to bed.

That will be $40.00 please.

I will never be able to understand some people - I mean a little common sense can go a long way.

New one:

A woman called an IT specialist I know, during a black out.

"I can't seem to turn my computer on!" she said.

"Lady, if you can't figure that one out, return your computer!" He replied.

lmao that's a good one...
Wonder if that was a serious question...the only way I could honestly see somebody being that dull is if they had a backup generator they didn't know had kicked in... (That also wasn't wired to the computer...lol)

Shane~

Woman calls a computer repair store :

"My Computer says that it can't see the printer... which doesn't make sense, because I moved the monitor so that it's facing RIGHT AT IT!"
