Computer freezes on boot

Posted 13 July 2009 - 02:34 PM

Okay so heres what happend:

I turn on my computer, log in, turn on my usual usb drive, open up outlook. All is fine, next I plugged in my ipod and it restarts all of the sudden, and It's not the first time I plugged in my ipod so I'm not sure why it restarted.

What happens:
Every time I boot it will freeze, the earliest it freezes at is the log in screen showing the hour glass on the mouse. Sometimes it will let me log in or other times it will freeze on log in, just random, and I cannot do anything with it. No CTRL ALT DEL, nothing. But I can eject the DVD Drives if that helps :D.

I'm just not sure whats going on or how to fix it, does anybody have any suggestions for me?

Thank you,
Musya.

First of all, what OS is it? Is it Linux (assuming this from your OS preference)?

Have you tried pushing F8 when the loading screen comes up? This allows you to boot in safe mode.

Try booting in Safe Mode and check the system files. Use this command to do this:

sfc /scannow

um...ok...For me, if I push F8 after the Windows XP loading screen, it says:
Boot Windows normally
...
Safe Mode

So thats what I was getting at, but I guess I cant help you if that is not functioning.
Sorry!
