Horrible internet

Posted 25 July 2009 - 01:56 PM

I have the ambit 60678eu and starting a couple of weeks ago it started to act very strange

It is very slow so I unplug it for a few minutes and then internet is what it should be and then after about 5 min it slows down dramticallly

At the start of the 5 min I am able to watch a youtube video and receive about 200+ thousand bytes in about per second but when it slows down I'm getting a couple hundred every second

anyone have any idea why this is happening?

*Edit: In the time it took me to write this comment the internet slowed down

Does this happen on all the computers on your internet connection, or just this one?
Have you had your ISP out to check out the connection speeds?

You need to figure out if the problem is your computer, router, or ISP and then we'll begin troubleshooting from there.

Do you have wireless networking? Have you tried rebooting (power cycling) your modem/networking equipment?

Without knowing the extent of how you are using your connection, it's a little troubling to share any options. If the connection to your modem is slow, your ISP will need to correct it (if power cycling doesn't fix it), however depending on what is going on after the modem, it's difficult to say.

I've narrowed the problem down to the modem because even a direct connection does the same thing and my wireless router is new and yes it does happen on all computers the modem is 5 years old so I think that it's just old and starting to go bad but I don't know for sure. Don't wanna go and buy a new one if it's a fixable problem

have you tried a different modem? Possibly someone around you that has the same ISP? It doesn't sound like you've ruled the ISP out, rather just your side.
