I think I nice site feature would be to send a PM (if not an email too based off acount options). To send a small notice when you are awarded a new badge. Just a little congrats and make mention of any new access and privillages that one is now entitled to.

For example, I've been a Contributor for a few months now, and I just discovered the contributor/author private forum. It would have been nice to at least been alerted to it.

I actively refuse to even go to twitter as long as CNN is using it as a primary news source. Besides isnt that what we have PM's for?

Some members do get various badges pretty quick. It depends on the expertise and community activity. In the last two months we had promoted some members to mentors and experts, plus there is a whole bunch of members who became contributors.

exactly, they earned it by proving their expertise.

i would say instead of doing this, just put that forum somewhere else, like on the top left column where we list the lounge and stuff...

i like your humility, but make sure that you're not just saying that because you're hoping your humility would get you promoted.
