Apache Tomcat

Posted 09 September 2005 - 01:42 AM

I download the apache tomcat on the website. I download the one for windows. But it didn't start.

So i tried to start it in services and there's a pop-up says

"Windows could not start the apache tomcat on local computer. For more information, review the system event log. if this is a non-microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 0"

What's the problem?

Thanks

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 1

You did not mention what OS (by which I mean windows version) the server is running...it might make a difference. As to the exact problem, it is a little hard to tell given the message, but it should be noted that Apache and Tomcat are actually two separate items...you have to install the apache http server before you install tomcat.

Here is an article on installing it for XP pro.

Here are links for installing it with other OSs.

Have you been through all the steps? Sorry to ask, but when troubleshooting you have to eliminate the base stuff first... :)

Do you have the Java Development Kit installed on that machine (v 1.2 or later)?

No problem, lilygrace...here's a pretty good article on Tomcat installation for a Windows machine...it's old, but it should still apply...it's been quite a while since I put tomcat on a windows box :)

[edit]the process may have changed somewhat...you may only need a JRE installed on the machine to run it...[\edit]

hi!!! sorry it took for a while to get back here..

Anyways... I successfully started my tomcat but when I tried to access its localhost (http://localhost:8080/).. the test page didn't appear.

Is there a configuration?
