I just got 2 new monitors and am trying to set them up on xp but am having a really hard time getting them to work.
If I use just one of them both the dvi and vga ports works but when I try to use both for dual monitors the one that is plugged into the dvi port on my ati 9600xt stops working after the windows splash screen, I have been working on this for 4 hours and am out of ideas so if you have any please help
Thanks
9600xt dual monitordvi doesn't work

When you open up your display properties, does it show the option for two output devices?

Does catalyst have a dual display wizard?
Also, if your card has one DVI and one VGA, it is not set up for dual monitors.
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814102043 --> does not support dual monitors.

Okay but then why does it work when I use a dvi to vga converter so that both monitors are using vga
The reason I don't want to use the converter box is because when I do the colors are off

Not completely correct KYA, my wife has an NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS and it has VGA and DVI and she runs dual monitors off of it so it is possible for a card to have VGA & DVI and run dual monitors. I can say that the card in question (the OP's) does not support dual monitors though.

I stand corrected. Every card I've had in the past (with single connectors of each) couldn't do that.

Okay most cards don't work like that but why does mine work when I have one monitor with the vga and the other one with a dvi to vga coverter but then it doesn't work with one monitor vga and one dvi

Those ATI cards come with something called Hydravision, you may need to play around with this to get the monitors to work without the adapter.
Check your manual or online to see what its all about.
Hope that helps

Well I gave up and I found a pci geforce fx 5200 in a box that I wasn't using so I just put that in my computer and I got dual screens to work, but I still think there is a way to just use my ati 9600xt because it works with the dvi -> ga converter box but oh well
I guess my computer is ati and nvidia powered now lol
