hey guys...I was looking for an application or any way (web based or something) to make a very big brochure in .PDF to make in small in filesize not destroying its resolution..I saw our company brochure in pdf and looks great but one thing I know is to compress it (zipped it)...

any suggestion are welcome

hi,

it's complicated to compress a pdf.. because... a pdf it's already a compressed file format.. for example if you try to compress with RAR or ZIP, the output file stays exactly the same size... sometimes with littles diferrences.

and also pdf is a vector format... so very dificult to get it smaller.

maybe with new tecnology that is beeing developed by Microsoft, Adobe, and Sun... that uses SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) will be helpfull in this area, but for now.. i dont know any way to reduce in a good way a pdf.

the new programs from microsoft like Expression (http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/en/default.aspx) or Acrylic Graphic Designer are already using SVG tecnology.

Ok this is a little trick that I do to get PDF's smaller

Using Acrobat you have the acrobat pdf writer printer

open the pdf that you want to make smaller

print that document to the PDF Writer.

the result will be a new PDF that is much much smaller in file size but still retains the quality of the origonal.

it is a little odd but you arnt breaking abuthing printing the PDF into another PDF

Your milage may vary on how much smaller it is.
