Hello,
So, a few months I tried Windows 7, not realizing its old news to the rest of the world. Now, I've hardly used the RC and that's because I was just afraid to take a chance, either that or just didn't have the time to bother.
Now, I bought a magazine, Linux format, comes with Fedora 11 in the September issue, and a mighty expensive magazine, for me anyways. I tried installing it last night, like about nearly 8 times, when I almost decided to crack my machine, honestly my machine ain't at fault. I started with booting the computer from the dvd as instructed by the new media editor of the mag, Mike Saunders, and I come up with extremely annoying problem. It asked to test the integrity of the media, which is the second step after booting, and when I did the test it kept on saying there is a fault with my disc. It's brand new, bought from the shop, now what could possibly be wrong with it, you suppose. And if I skip the test, it just ejects the disc. Plus the other problem is my response time to each instruction. It basically took a while to eject after pressing the "skip" selection.
I went onto the site now to see what I can come up with to resolve such an issue. First thing was, if there are any scratches, disc got no scratches. Next option would be to try it out another PC, don't feel like asking my brother, so I'll have to wait to go to work to ask a friend to help me out. He's a tech with a whole lot of other peoples PC's lying around. Perhaps he could help, here. In the meantime, any Linux experts that could help me now.

A brand new disk bought straight from the shops does not mean that the disk should work.
Even without physical damage the disk could have corrupt files on and it could be down to numerous different aspects of production, transport etc.
You have several options, some PC shops sell hard copies of Fedora (the software is free however the payment is to cover costs of producing the media) so you could buy a new copy of Fedora, buy a new magazine, contact the magazine company to see if they will send you a replacement for the dodgy disk or download a new copy of Fedora 11 from the internet and burn it to DVD yourself. You will need a fast internet connection for the last option as the DVD is about 3 to 4GB.
I know ubuntu offer it not sure if Fedora do, they also offer to mail you a free copy of Fedora out but it may take a while to arrive. Ubuntu took 2 weeks to arrive for me but it was free.

You can download and Burn your own ISO's. Personally i am not a fan of Fedora, i did use it for a few years however i have found the best package to be openSuse. You can get it from http://software.opensuse.org
You won't regret it

download it, it might take sometime but its worth it. you can either download the cd or the dvd. the cd has an issue with the new filesystem (ext4) so i had problems installing it (your case might be different). dload the dvd so that u can burn it again if the dvd you put it is faulty.
another solution is to try using alcohol 120% or some other software (in windows or linux) which can create an image of the dvd so u can burn it again. the error might still occur but it's worth a shot esp with cd/dvd recovery software
