im in the market for a new tv and narrowed down my search to these 2 tvs. Just curious to see if people think 500-600 dollars more for the LED tv is worth it???? what does everyone think? LED or LCD?

I just got a Samsung 55", 1080p, 120hz LCD from BestBuy and I've spent the past 3 weeks purposefully trying to make it look like shit because the picture is SO good you can actually see the shitty lighting, fake sets, bad acting, crappy make up, etc.

It's the LN55B640 and I paid $1899 for it. It's on sale for $1799 right now at Best Buy.
That said.... I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. It's BEAUTIFUL.

yeah man thats the exact one i have ordered for delivery in a couple weeks. got it from sears for the 1799+ 10% off that for opening a sears charge. but then i saw buy.com had the same sized LED tv for like 500 bucks more. IDK if that is worth that extra cash or if i will be wishing i would have spent the extra cash after i buy the LCD. from what i can tell its bascially just a butt load thinner, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio instead of 100,000:1 and its 40% more energy efficient. no idea what to do...
@sloth- yeah man, samsung tvs FTW. bought a 32" inch LCD and buying a house now, so its time to upgrade

I can tell you I think you'll be very happy with the contrast ratio on the LCD. The blacks are pretty damn rich even for a cold cathode TV. Only thing that could possibly make it better is if it was LED back lit for true dynamic contrast.

You should check out the Pioneer PRO101FD it sounds amazing but I would never pay that much for a TV.

Personally, I'd go for the LED as that is the next gen tv, and they are meant to be awesome, unfortunatly I have not seen one being demo'd at any stores in the uk so I can only go by what I have read online.
There's not much between Samsung and Sony, the sales guy at sony told me that Sony own 60% of Samsung (don't know how true that is), I have also heard that Sony are using Samsung screens in their Bravia tv's. Personally I go Samsung as I like Samsung products.
