[SOLVED] Odd Problem w/ dsl internet connection

Posted 17 September 2009 - 07:38 PM

Here's what happened:
My dad was using the computer and installed some network connection software. Then when I tried to connect to the internet it wouldn't let me.

I am using Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

My first attempt was a system restore. It did nothing at all for the connection.

I can connect to the internet if I make a new connection and then select "connect to" the internet connection. Before my default internet connection was automatically detected as soon as windows started up. Now it says that I only have Local Access.

How can I change the settings to make windows automatically recognize the connection without me have to click "connect to" everytime I want to use the internet?

Do you by chance have Norton or trend micro security suites?

We've had a few machines that came in for internet connectivity, with Vista, & both of the above mentioned security suites run a proxy service. Once that was disabled in the software (not through windows, but genuinely disabled in the issued software) this corrected the issue.

The machines got an ip address & could perform nslookup (get an IP Address from a URL), but had no internet traffic.

I don't have Norton or Trend Micro.

I fixed the problem though.

All I did was type in the ip address on the back of the modem and hit login.

Everything is working perfectly. :D

I never look at the obvious solutions first. I always assume it will take hours of messing around.
