Additional Thread Functionality Suggestion For The Mods/Admins
Posted 27 September 2009 - 09:44 PM
occasionally around the lounge or heated topics pretty good and useful threads that have some pretty nice discussions going on get closed by a mod/admin because a few members either start flaming at each other or post material that shouldn't be posted. now i don't really think its fair for the other members in the community not to be able to participate in the discussion just because a small number of members start flaming or do something that is against the rules of the site, so i thought of an additional functionality that could be useful to implement to fix this problem. I thought maybe you guys could have an option that would ban a member from a specific thread instead of just closing the thread all together. that way the thread would be still going and the trouble makers would be gone. I don't know if this already exists but i just thought of suggesting it anywayz
Thanks
Thanks

That's a good suggestion, not sure if it would break the existing functionality or not though. We try to handle the disruptive members without closing a thread, but sometimes it's just so out of control we have no choice

I'm pretty sure a "firm" PM will be enough to take care of those disruptions.

Unfortunately, this is not always so. There have been cases when even PMs from admins were blatantly ignored and the inappropriate behavior continued. Therefore, we sometimes reach that point when more strict measures are applied.
A closed thread usually means that the discussion went so far away, that there is no way to bring it back on topic. We try not to do this too often, but it all depends on the participating members.
