Help With C++

Post icon  Posted 28 September 2009 - 10:14 AM

So I'm in Grade 11 and taking Computer Science, I used to play games all class long and yeah, I shouldn't have. It's been like 4 weeks since school started and I barely know what the hell we are doing in class, I understand basic shit like Cout and Cin, but I don't even know what freggin variable and integer represent, and now we are supposed to be writing a program that calculates taqxes and outputs the price and we have make some bars with ascii in it, so what should I do? Can anyone link me to some online guides that I can read and quickly catch up with? I read fast and I think I can catch up as I don't think we are doing THAT complicated stuff yet.

EDIT: Now we're doing some shit with Printf, Scanf, and we are supposedly suppsed to know cout.precision....help.

Well no...I don't think it would help me as I just need some place to learn BEGINNER stuff so I can catch up with this, we're only 3 weeks into the course, I would think I can catch up...

There are plenty of beginner subjects covered by our snippets & tutorials. Since we don't know what you are having trouble with, we can't just spell it out for you. Have a look over the subjects that you are having trouble with, & come back with any specific questions that you have.

When you've missed the beginning, it's hard to catch up when you don't understand the fundamentals. Let us know what you need help with :)

I was asking for help on C++. Should I just upload all the stuff I have in my files and the notes she's given us into a rar and send it to you so you can guide me from there?? It'd be 1mb max I think. And she also ALWAYS tells us to use this template to start any program.

#include <iostream.h>

using namespace std;
int main()
{

		  system("pause");
		  return 0;
}

No2Pencil, waiting for you to respond.

No.

Create a topic, provide the code showing that you gave a good effort at trying, & then provide your questions &/or errors.

First of all, you should include windows.h for that "system()"
secondly, post what code you have!!!
int // stores an integer in it (examples: -3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3)
float // stores a floating point number in it! (examples: -3.22222,-2.2222, etc. notice the decimal!)
double // same as float except double precision (larger variable)
char // a single character will fit in a "char" variable; with a large group of these variable stored contiguously in memory is called a string or an array

examples:

int var1=0;
float var2=0.0;
double var3=0.0;
char letter='a';
char letter[33]="Ur string here.";

cin >> var1;
cout << var1;

when using printf() a list of the variables to be outputted follows the string usually, consult a search engine for finding pages on IO in C
printf("A miss is as good as a %f",var2); // something like that

for the bar, i don't know what it's supposed to represent but it can't be that hard;
cout some '=' line by line to represent some data should be easy

the algorithm to do this i'm not going to give you, give me code and i'll offer some help.

This is not correct
#include <iostream.h>

Take the .h
#include <iostream>
;)

Your teacher didn't provide you with a book? Idk if it has changed, but in high school they should have provided you with your books. If no books are needed for the class, then she should have atleast given you some handouts.
