Networking

Posted 28 September 2009 - 10:33 PM

I'm having a bit of trouble getting my laptop online. I have a router that I'm trying to get into wirelessly I have all the DNS and DHCP locations and the default gateway. I think the best thing to do is get in and encrypt the wireless part of the router so I can surf the web any time. I just don't know how. This may not be an appropriate subject for a computer programming site but who knows networking better than a programmer?

So if I understand what you are saying, you don't have the encryption keys to access the router?

Dare I ask if this is your router?

Thank you Psychocoder. To answer your question yes it is my router I don't do any war driving or stuff like that. I'm not that kind of a hacker. I have a book that describes how to boost the signal of the wireless interface to the router but I don't want to try anything like that until I'm 500% sure I can and that means gaining experience with another router first.

The router is mine as I said the reason I don't want to try anything foolish is because it's my only link to the internet and I can't get advice here if I lose it.

Ok, so have you setup the router to require encryption keys?

It's best to help you if we know what you've done thus far.
