first thing first dont try this at home there are SCCA sanctioned tracks and corces for this kind of stuff..

First get a rear wheel drive car.

2 start practicing donuts around a road cone

Initiate the drift by either ebrake/applying more power/downshifting on to get the rear tires to break free keep maintaining your donut by using throttle control to keep the rear wheels free and mild steering corrections to keep the front end following the line you want. you should feel the weight transfer from the right rear to the front left if you are performing a left hand drift.

I suggest ya take a look at the drift king DVD's for more advanced techniques. And use your head if there is a possibility that you are going to kill someone other then your self then it is probally a bad idea.

Front wheel drive and AWD are basically for grip style street racing

Rear wheel drive vehicles for drift. like the old 86's [1.8L sr5 carolla/levin] and s13's [240sx/sylvia] however a new 350z or c5 vette is a nice drift car but they get to be too damn expensive.

Then you shouldn't do it again!  However, by luck or not, it really did look like you knew exactly what the car was going to do.  B)

I do it all the time on dirt road where I can't hit anything so I am used to the way that the car slides. It was getting out of there and ditching the car that was fallowing me that scared the S#!t out of me. (i only do it on road's on very rare occasions)

I'm not sure but I don't think that they have those in New Mexico.
