Hey,
As soon as I press my power-on button, the CPU starts and shuts down immediately.
As I keep doing this, the CPU keeps Shutting down a few seconds later than the previous power-on attempt..
I need to keep doing this at least 10 times to get my PC started.
What could be the cause?
I figure there's something wrong with the SMPS.
Am i right?

pop the case and check to see if you have bulged and or leaking capacitors. If the mother board is manufactured after 2003 it should be ok however the mother board manufacturers wont admit wrong doing in this. There is a whole series of IEEE papers on just this sort of problem
IF there are no bad motherboard caps then while the case is open make sure that all your fans are spinning and are not jammed with dust lint fur etc.
If there are bad caps on your motherboard. dont turn off your computer unlyess you can replace the motherboard because you may not be able to get it to come back up.

Well...I cleaned the dust.
If the capacitors were blown my PC wouldnt start at all.
I can use my PC normally after around 15 power-ons.
It's the Power Supply Unit I'm sure.
Because today I used my mom's hair dryer for my Power Supply Unit and the computer started only on 2 power-ons...
Wierd.

lol...I know you guys want pictures....sure I'll show 'em.
But I got the prob finally
Some Capacitors are bust(thanx guys for tellin me in advance
)
So I've given my Motherboard to get fixed by the hardware techies so I can only logon from my friends place.
Looks Like I won't be able to login DIC for a while.
I'll miss DIC...even though I'll be gone for around 2 weeks.
Once my PC is back...the Hair Dryer Pics will be posted...lol.
Cya in 2 weeks(that's if that hardware dude doesnt delay it further;) )

And Actually with only some of your caps blown it will still boot sort of however the mosfets are not getting the clean powa that they need so instability of your system ensues. The Hair dryer dosent sound like too odd ball of a Idea and here is why I think so.
The extra load on the circut may have smoothed out the power enough to get it to boot properly. However with out getting the motherboard recapped your problem would have keept going on untill it wouldent boot at all.
Every gateway that we had with a 1 ghz athlon needed its motherboard replaced. what sucks is rebuilding 100 workstation's over 2 weeks cause they all seemed to go out at the same time. Now we buy HP's
