There's a lot more Operating System than think that can run on ARM
See ARM's own list
I personally would RISCOS to be updated and ported to a Net book.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean anything to the typical world. The key I was explaining is what's on the shelves. I was speaking about the world that honestly thinks there's just PCs and Macs and that PC is just another term for a computer that runs Microsoft Windows. Things like MP3/Video players, DSs, phones and the like are things people use. The people using them don't even know who ARM is (but they usually hear about Intel or AMD). Honestly, I didn't even realize how many small devices use ARMs or that Windows CE could run on ARMs until recently when I heard the article about their netbook plans.
Lots of people look at the Linux running on my netbook like it's some alien artifact.
All of this sort of makes me glad I'm a computer scientist/engineer/whatever I'm supposed to be. Personally I don't care if the ARM netbooks are popular in the consumer market- I could use the tiny beast just fine. And obviously you could too. We are "privileged" to get a netbook that was cheaper, faster, longer lasting and more reliable simply because we can use it. Whereas your typical MySpacer netizen (general iTard, or whatever you call them) would be lucky to be able to turn the thing on.
We can build our own desktops for (not exaggerating) half the price, with more power, and without the need to worry about getting support. Hm.. Yeh
" well do remember my original problem was with Linux and having to compile drivers and programs, swear/cry, and try again. Deployment is also a pain on Linux sometimes.
There needs to be some standard that Linux guarantees by default in terms of GUI, sound, etc. - that's one thing I love about Windows. It's all the same Microsoft stuff. Good? Bad? When your program runs on most of your target end-users computers there comes a time where you just don't care.

yeah 'linux' doesn't guarantee anything because it can't. that's why corporations like red hat exist, to guarantee and give support to variations of the product.
more people however are going to be introduced to linux thru the mobile space (i.e. android). actually, i lean towards everything taking place over mobile/browsers/and working in 'the cloud' than what we use as traditional computing right now (almost the reverse swing we took from mainframes to desktops)

I don't want cloud comping myself. I want to own my hardware and do whatever and to not need the Internet to work for me to work.
Personally, I'm a fan of microcomputers (like this netbook) because it's so tiny and I can do some really cute things with it. Kawaii! But the processor and stuff is all mine. I'm having fun writing my game engine on it because it's old school all over again.

There should be a law:
That someone should put MySpace out of its misery. How many people are on there? 8?
That the insert key is removed from a keyboard. Who uses that?
That someone moves CapsLock away from shift. I hate my retarded pinky!

There ought to be a law preventing random mac users from speaking to you unless you speak to them. Just to clarify before someone rips my head off, I don't have an issue with Mac OS X (my other laptop is a Mac [with a dead backlight]). My issue is with strangers who think so much of themselves and their mac tech that they can't resist making an ass of themselves. EX:
Sitting at the coffee shop with my laptop working on some code. Guy next to me interrupts my coding, "I noticed you have a computer there... I have a computer here (holds up his iPhone)". Um, no, you don't.
Same coffee shop, patron has his iPod Touch on the bar in front of him. Bartender/Barista says "Hey, lemme see your iPod for a sec?" and he says "You mean iPod TOUCH?"
Me talking to my boss about a program he uses on a Mac: "What's the file extension?" (He peers closely at the file) "There is no file extension."
And lastly, my roommate, when my wife asked him if he didn't have a computer referred to his iPod as being like a computer.
Okay, the last two aren't strangers, and were spoken to first, but still... you get the point.

You do realize that the iPhone and iPod are not Macs, right?

lol, yes I do realize that. Look at the time I wrote that. 1:30AM which was 2:30AM my time. So... Besides, the pretentiousness, which is my issue with them, seems to port quite fine to any apple product.

Yeah. I mean if you want to buy a 2000 dollar laptop that does half the stuff of my 250 dollar laptop, it's not like I really care too much about how other people shop. However, when you start bragging about it and making fun of the computer I actually use to work and to pretend to work with, then you're an iTard.

My wife and I got matching PC laptops (brand new model) on clearance for $310 each. Only reason my last laptop was a mac was that it was free. The only way you'd get me to pay over a grand for a laptop is if it was Alienware (my buddy actually has an Alienware. Knows next to nothing about computers though. D'oh!).
