What folder is it? WINNT/Windows/ *some* system folder?

Also, what steps have you taken (please be exact), as order of events matters. This prevents extra posts with 'try this' or 'try that'.

the directory is directly located on the c drive

c:/somedir/

the reason i'm looking into this is because on my localhost, i can't get php to copy files to any dir

upon further review, any file that i look at has a box inside the read-only box (not a checkmark)

I have unboxed it and hit apply and everything looks dandy, but when i hit ok and exit the properties box and then go back in, the box is boxed again...

Was the folder created in an install, or did you make it? Also, is the folder being protected by Apache/IIS/any server program? Did you create the folder manually (in windows) or through a FTP program?

If you did it through FTP, try a CHMOD (777) should set it to Read/Write/Append for what you need.

Do any other folders have this problem?

Update: For some reason (could be a glitch), if a file/subfolder is set to Read-Only, then the parent folder becomes Read-Only, regardless of how many times you clear the Read-Only attribute of the Parent folder. When you clear the Read-Only attribute of the Parent folder (Alternate click the folder, properties. Then click the little [green] box beside Read-Only. A dialog should appear and ask if you want to apply it to all subfolders and files, or just the folder. Apply it to all the subfolders and files. That should fix the problem.

Didn't work as in it didn't ask you to clear all the sub-folders/files Read-Only attribs?

I've just decided that this may not be a problem, because even though my folders appear to be read-only, i can still put files and other folders in them

Sooooo... the problem was a problem without an error, or anything that actually stopped you from doing what you wanted?

(Next time, even if an attribute says one thing, try to do what you want. It may still work. After all, it is a Microsoft product ;) )
