Windows Boots Up Automatically

Posted 23 October 2009 - 06:34 PM

So, here's the issue. I'm not sure when exactly this started, but it's been going on for awhile. I'm dual booting Windows XP and Ubuntu, using GRUB as my bootloadermanagerthing.

Anyway, every night at precisely 11 PM, my computer boots itself up. And since I'm in bed by then, it just sits there at GRUB waiting. I've checked in BIOS, and have autostart disabled. I'm not affected by this when shutting down from Ubuntu (I think, I'll double check in an hour and a half (11PM)).

Google proved unhelpful. So, does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find why it's booting itself up like this?

Grub should have timeout options.

I'll see what I can dig up & reply when I have more information.

perhaps you have a scheduled task set somewhere? Something on your network is sending a wake-on-lan signal?

Pull the plug?

Most likely you have Windows set to install updates at 11pm. My pc used to do that at 3am and it scared the living crap out of me. Change the time to a time that your on the pc, like for me, it'll be 1pm.

Alright, thanks for your help everyone. I just tried going to the "scheduled tasks" folder (didn't even know that existed) and found some backup program running everyday at 11PM (which I didn't set. Weird).

I'll try the rest of your suggestions later if this doesn't work, but I have no way of testing it for another tenish hours.

Thanks though
