Kubuntu upgrade 9.10

Posted 27 October 2009 - 11:49 AM

I had a great system on Kubuntu 9.04 going and then I upgraded to Karmic Koala, rebooted, and...... a login screen. So far so good. The login screen then shows a loading splash screen. This however, leads to just a white screen with my mouse pointer. I have access to TTY1-TTY6, but I need help restoring my computer back to 9.04, and, at the moment, i have no accessible internet.

PLEASE Help me here. It is merely my toy computer and I do have windows 7 dual boot which works well, but I would really like to have it back.

Here is a link to my ubuntuforums.org page: The other forum...

You understand, 9.10 isn't out yet?

I can't think of a worse time to do an upgrade; right before a major release. There is currently a mad dash before the package repositories get locked down. Flux isn't just expected, it guaranteed. They don't call it beta for nothing.

Do a "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" every so often over the next few days. If it's still buggered after the official release, then worry.

Thanks Baavgai.I understood that, and I was just flat being stupid. Since I have wireless internet connection that is not working, and only command line access, should I "borrow" the house modem when I try or is there a way to get an unsecured network working?

If you're net free, the distribution ISO should have enough to get you right. When it first comes out bittorrent will usually be faster than direct download. You can also set up the CD-ROM as an apt-get repository and take it from there.

To be honest, clean installs offer the least hassle. I often just backup my /home settings and do a full load. As a developer, I tend to screw up any OS I'm using pretty bad, given enough time. ;)
