Well, 760 MB is not a lot. Your Running RAMBUS? Check your Page File size, see how big it is. Note that if your total memory usage exceeds 760 MB, your system will make up for the lack of RAM by using a paging file on the Hard Drive as RAM, and that is Way slower, especially if you are running an IDE Hard Drive. What is the speed of the RAM? One thing to do is to download a program that monitors how much RAM is being used. With XP, you should be fine with 760, but it depends on what you are doing....

Another thing I recommend is to get familiar with the running processes on the Task Manager so you can easily notice any that should not be there and kill them. The Autoruns.exe file from theSysInternals suite is a good program to have. I would recommend turning off any Startup Programs that you can open by yourself, like IMs and iTunes.

A Hard Disk has no effect on the RAM. You could have a 3.2 GB hard disk with 8GB of RAM in an x64 System (though you would have a hard time doing much of anything after getting the OS installed....)

One thing is, does kapersky check your pc for viruses all the time or is it so that you have to run it to find viruses? Virus checking takes quite much resources.

yes, kaspersky does scan for viruses on it's own. it's the best anti virus and firewall software i have used till date.

He has a point. like I said, get familiar with the running processes and you will be able to see what is making it go slow, and if you can kill it .

There they are.

Yahoo messenger is an annoying piece of shit that registers itself as a startup application when executed even if we removed it earlier.

Kaspersky Internet security.. I don't have words for that thing.
Use avast free edition, it's way better for your PC specs.

i used avast once and that software is a shit.
my pc was infected with loads of viruses, then i used kaspersky and it found 56 viruses inside my pc. i am using kaspersky's latest version, i think that's why it is taking too much resources, earlie i used version 7, which did that much of resources.

I don't know why.. but I have 640 MB RAM and fully updated Kaspersky turned my system into hell. I had to reformat it once every two months. But after using avast I'm running this system fine for approx. four months now without a problem.

P.S. : This is my personal experience. People have different experiences.
