VB 2005 - Every project refuses to compile with the same error!

Post icon  Posted 07 November 2009 - 12:38 PM

Hi. First post!

Hoping you can help me with a rather annoying problem... I'm using Visual Studio 2005 (college only has 2005 so..) and I have a very important program to write for college.

My problem is, every time I try to compile I get the error:

"Error while trying to run project: Could not load file or assembly "Program" or one of its dependencies. The given assembly name or codebase was invalid."

We're talking a very simple program - I've only been learning for a few weeks. Any suggestions on how I fix this please?

Thanks in advance!
John.

Are you referencing specific COM or .NET assemblies in the project? Also, is Program the name of the assembly?

Are we to assume you meant to say Visual Studio 2008?

Do both you and your colledge run 32-bit windows?

No, Visual Studio 2005.

I created a new project just to see if the error came up again... I'm literally trying to debug just one form with one label and I still get the error!

He clearly mentioned 2005. What's wrong with it?

What's the project name? Sometimes this problem could be caused by invalid characters in the name.

Oops, sorry don't know how that got there.

The project name is Bertie's Buses (the company the assignment is based on)

That's exactly what I was looking for. Remove the apostrophe from the name. Name it something like Berties Buses, for example.
