Managing the unmanageable

Posted 10 November 2009 - 12:03 PM

I know for some Linksys routers you can download and install a 3rd party firmware to "unlock" more potential in programming the device. Is there a way to do this with a unmanageable switch? Maybe a 3rd party firmware or a tool of some sort ... have spent a couple of hours on the ol' buddy Google and only find things with people asking the same question never a suggestion or solution.

I may be running in circles with this but thought couldn't hurt to ask :)

current situation for the need to this:
I have a Dell Powerconnect 2324 24-port unmanaged switch
I have 2 networks both with their own DHCP servers

If i static a computer with IP's from both networks everything works just peachy ... BUT if a computer is plugged into the switch it gets a IP from a random DHCP server ( mostly the one I DON'T want it to come from of course ), trying to get some manageability from the switch to basically only allow DHCP request to be made to a certain port.

I have done this in the past with Cisco managed switches but that's a whole different beast. Thanks for any help!
