You should consider taking a peek at you BOOT.INI file. To do so, type in 'msconfig' in the run prompt in the start menu (Assuming you're using Win2000 or XP). The "System Configuration Utility" will pop up and then click on the BOOT.INI . This is what mine looks like:

Quote

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

(I have a Linux partition after this one, but I don't think it will effect this because GRUB is before the windows bootloader)

Just see if anything looks strange in you BOOT.INI

problem solved. actually it was Norton which was messing things up for some reason (probably cause i removed some of its start up scan utilities to save memory and time)

after restore its gone.

Put in your original Linux setup disk and from that, try to re-install your boot loader.
