software recovery

Does any one know of a good software recovery? one of my users hard drives crashed i took out her hard drive and hooked it to my computer but it tells me to format it. I need to restores her files to put on her other computer.

You could use SpinRite. I have heard that this works wonders. http://www.grc.com/default.htm go here for a link to it. Not free I know, but as I hear it well worth the money.

chkdsk will rewrite the file allocation table....

Thanks for the info Did try chkdsk already and it didnt work. Ill just have to buy the recovery software. But the good thing is that my work has to pay for it not me lol!

I have used many different recovery programs...Advanced File Recovery is on the top of my list.

I use dd to get a binary dump of the drive. Screw partition tables, that can be setup later :)

DD & ISO references!
