Fedora 12

Posted 17 November 2009 - 06:26 PM

Fedora 12 released today! :)

Download here: http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora
Screenshots: http://beginlinux.wo...-beta-released/
http://beginlinux.wo...2-beta-release/
New Features: http://fedoraproject.../12/FeatureList

Gave the KDE version a try on my laptop (i686 on Eee 1005ha) and desktop (x86_64 on P5NSLI + e5200 @ 3.15ghz). Never bothered installing because Plasma crashed running off the live cd after a couple minutes of usage. Also Konqueror crashed when I right-clicked on something. I really like KDE, but I don't understand how this stuff is being shipped out the door... :(

Most likely installing the Gnome version when I get a chance.

Edit: Screenshots are from the beta, but from what I can tell nothing has really changed visually.

Quick update.

Installed F12 on my desktop and my laptop (previously mentioned). Everything is working well, although not much is changed from last release aside from newer packages.

Default IM client is now Empathy, which I quickly removed and replaced with Pidgin. Not sure why the developers are trying to push for the change when it is quite clear that Empathy is nowhere near Pidgin in terms of features or stability.

Empathy however, does allow video and voice chat. As far as I know, pidgin doesn't. The only missing feature I did notice was the absence of e-mail notifications. I like Fedora 12's under the hood features - especially love the fact that my sound card works out of the box :)
