Windows Azure to have its own App Marketplace

It was recently announced that Microsoft's Cloud Platform is finally in the beta stage. And it's not just this that makes the announcement interesting. It was also mentioned that Azure will have its very own application marketplace for online apps hosted on Azure and datasets for building apps. The Azure marketplace is planned to be something similar to what Amazon.com currently is.

Interesting. The real appeal of Azure will be the developer tools, I think. That's Microsoft's consistent strength.

The main difference will be Azure's use of Windows. Amazon and Salesforce only use Web standards.

I would hope Microsoft would follow suit. They were an early adopter of Web Service standards like SOAP and WSDL. While they're hideously complex for mere mortals, as least everyone can share. If there's some hidden gotcha, like Microsoft's implementation of Kerberos, it would be a shame.
