In this case though I take specific requests from people as opposed to all people to all mentors/writers/etc.

I think what Firebolt is trying to say to you is that we have a section on the forums for this exact thing you are proposing and that the forum would benefit as a whole from you creating tutorilas in the correct place where everyone can see them. Rather than you taking PM requests from people who have little things they want to know.

We are all proud of our photoshop skills but this is a programming forum and its nice to be diplomatic and help the entire community, wouldn't you think so?
