This is not really to do with software, but I moved it here from the Lounge as a possible best fit.

Well, aside from the normal legal questions regarding the bypassing of security measures, the method in which to bypass will depened on the method used to restrict.

How is your school restricting you from accessing various sites? Software on local machines? Firewall settings? router settings?

Keep in mind your school may have valid reasons for restricting access...then again, they may not.

Not that I'm big on circumventing security, but there is a new version of Linux available that is causing quite some controversy in the security community. It allows the user to get around just about any type of filter, port blocking, proxy, etc.

There are a few webstes out there that can get around simple filters by using a proxy.

One that I use often is MegaProxy http://megaproxy.com it works well for web surfing but the web based services normally have a restriction like a bandwidth cap. Then one can't abuse the free service by downloading illegal files. ;)

If you're banned from accessing certain webpages 90% of the times the security is based on searching the URL for keywords. My ISP has the same filter too.
This has many flaws.
Use URL Encryptors which most Anonymous Proxies provide (Eg. Guardster.com) and you'll be able to surf.
Sometimes they make a mistake to search for keywords only in lowercase...which means we can search for banned keywords using Uppercase in Search engines.

I would suggest a live-cd of Linux. It might not be as anonymous as the BSD mentioned above, but probably hella more user friendly. Try Mepis or Knoppix. Here's a link to a good proxy in Tiawan. There's also a trick (if you can get to a site that will let you convert English to Bianry) just type in Bianry Code. Like...

Ps- If you can't get any of your live-cd's to load on start up, go into the BIO's by pressing F2 on start-up and navigate to "BOOT" and select load cd first.

Well this is kinda old but heres a website that has html based cgi proxy

Well this proxy isnt through a port, you dont have to chnage any internet options or anythng. So 99% of these blocks are on IE so I just use this

http://www.nickoli.net

scroll over search and click puppies then click continue to search engine, and theres a html cgi proxy. Just go to google first and then you can go any where through google. IE type gamefaqs.com in google and then click search and then click or wherever you want to go.
It works for me on 3 diff blocks, iPrism, Zangle, and St.Bernard
