Visual Basic 2005 Download

Post icon  Posted 16 December 2009 - 05:16 AM

Can anyone tell me (or guide me) to where I can download a copy of VS2005? I need it for school and 2005 is no longer available on Microsoft's website.

Thank you, in advance, for your time. :)

I have tried Microsoft website, they have upgraded to 2008. 2005 is no longer on the site. I have also tried DreamSpark - I get an error when trying to download (I have tried downloading to several machines to no avail, get the same error). Every site that I go to list 2005 but it is actually has 2008. This is so frustrating, why is the school teaching us 2005, telling us we need 2005 in order to complete our assignment but is not offering it to us?

Everything you could do in vb2005 you can do in vb2008 since you can target framework 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 (+client side versions)
Plus there some additional improvements.

That's true but you cannot open a VS2005 project without upgrading it to VS2008 and once you do that you can't re-open it in VS2005 at all!!

A quick workaround would be to use SharpDevelop - it can open and work with native VS2005 projects but you will have to become familiar with a slightly different IDE - but it isn't that different - you should easily pick up at least the basics.

Well I know you may not have any bad intentions from opening this thread, but I'm going to close it before someone posts a link to a pirated copy of Visual Studio 2005 (Because you know Visual Studio isn't free right?)
