Running a program

Posted 28 December 2009 - 12:46 AM

I finally figured out how to run a program in Ruby! :w00t:

I uninstalled and reinstalled Ruby, this time making sure to choose a destination folder I would remember. Then I saved a ruby file with extension rb in the same folder. Then just double click the file and voila! The program runs! :D

Why was that so hard to figure out?

I just thought I'd post how to do it, in case anyone else is having the same problem that I had with it. (but mainly because I'm so happy it finally works!)

The usual source of such issues is PATH issues in Windows. Besides putting the file in the same folder, you can edit your environment variables in system properties to include the Ruby bin on the path - which should solve the problem without you having to store files in the same folder as Ruby. Java sometimes needs the same treatment.

I could not remember what directory I had saved it in.
