Lately my computer has been running chkdsk upon starting up, then I'll have a few times of starting up normal before it does it again. Its happend three times already. Between the last two times after opening up a browser I almost never use it told me something with that was corrupt and told me to run the chkdsk program, wich I did. After all cases chkdsk finishes fine, or appears to, and lets me go on as normal. Can anyone ofer ny ideas as to what could be causing this? And is there anything I can/should do besides what its already doing running chkdsk? Running windows XP, btw.

Do you leave your computer running, or do you shut it down? Does it shut down clean?
Usually check disks are caused by harsh or violent shutdowns, such as a sudden loss of power. If there is no real reason for the check disk, then I would have to question the age of the drive. If the drive is five + years old, I would invest in replacing it.

I had a brand new computer with W7 awhile back that would do this.It would do it every time it started up, but recently it will never check disk even when I push and hold the power button.
