Ubuntu Netbook Remix

Posted 02 January 2010 - 07:09 PM

So, does anyone know anything about Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR)? This is the first I'm hearing about this and it looks rather interesting, so much so that if I cannot sell my Dell Netbook I may be installing it on my Netbook.

From the Canonical website I see this

Quote

Canonical works with devices manufacturers (OEMs) to pre-install Ubuntu Netbook Remix. These commercial products contain software that is not free and built for a specific hardware configuration unique to the OEM. These are not publicly available as we do not have the right to redistribute the software.

Does this mean that Ubuntu now comes with non open source software straight from the install? What exactly does this mean for Ubuntu users?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Not really much of anything. Mostly because the core of Ubuntu users use it for the same reason a lot of people use the Mac. It's like a badge they ware.
