One of the reasons a lot of people dislike anime is because they watch it in English. Consider that English voice acting sucks in general; the actors have a tendency to sound robotic and un-emotional which destroys the atmosphere of a lot of series; my guess is that they spend most of their time trying to match the mouth movements of the animations than exercising their acting skills.

There are a few exceptions of series that work fairly well in English (and sometimes better than the Japanese) such as Princess Mononoke, Outlaw Star, Witch Hunter Robin, and Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin), but mostly the Japanese versions are vastly superior based on comparisons I've done of the same series in both English and Japanese (such as Naruto and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED).

Of course, it isn't necessary to know Japanese either to watch them in that language. The DVDs usually offer Japanese with subtitles in English and internet fansubbers do the same (without the option to view in English though). Some of the series below haven't been (a may never be) translated into English so you can only get them online via download (unless you speak Japanese).

Just to add to the list, good series that I have and have seen:

(26 eps) Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad
(movie, mini-movie) Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (CG), Last Order
(51 eps) Fullmetal Alchemist
(13 eps) Gravitation
(50 eps each) Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, SEED Destiny
(173 eps, airing) Naruto
(26 eps) Outlaw Star (DVD)
(25 eps) Peach Girl
(movie) Princess Mononoke (English)
(movies) Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal, Reflection (DVD)
(24 eps) Speed Grapher
(movie) Spirited Away
(26 eps, airing) Tsubasa Chronicle
(26 eps) Witch Hunter Robin (DVD)

Bad series I didn't like:
(50 eps, movie) Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Wing Endless Waltz
(26 eps) Trigun (DVD)
I'd add Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh here but I think it's more of a "I'm just too old for that now" kind of thing.

Also in the middle of a number of promising series such as Bleach, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in Shell: Standalone Complex and I have parts of series that seem lame so I dropped watching them such as Magister Negi Magi and FLCL (Fooly Cooly).

If I had to name a best anime of all time it would be the Samurai X compilation. My favorite series would have to be the little-circulated Beck: MCS. For those that hate anime, Samurai X could easily turn someone around... I've seen it happen. :p

Heh, I have a number of the songs from FLCL. The only one I took a liking to was Ride On Shooting Star (by The Pillows), the ending theme song; it's too bad that it's so short at about 2:20 minutes.

I think a big reason why people are loathe to watch anime or get into it, at least from my experience is because of really annoying anime "otaku"s. When people use otaku as an excuse to be really annoying to disgard general hygene, it doesn't send a good message about anime watchers.

Anime is some sort of drug, it's effects made the Suncoast people on a first name basis with my sister. I'm not as affected, I can go over a week without anime withdrawls (actually, I can go over half a year). It's strangly slightly addicting, but I don't know why some people are so addicted, that they wear cat ears everywhere with anime shirts (talk about crazy). There's even someone who knows everything about Naruto, and I mean absolutly everything. He showed me a few fansub clips on his labtop on one of my breaks and it was like a DVD commentary as he said all the technical stuff while the video was playing.

I like the drawing style personally, I play so many japenese RPGs that were drawn in Anime. I never play any RPGs based off of real Animes (probably due to the fact that 90% of em' suck). Games like Tales of Phantasia/Symphonia, Fire Emblem, Star Ocean, ect... which are not based off of any real Anime before production of these games are what I play. Any other Genres of video games which were drawn in Anime I play also.

No force on earth would make be buy an Inuyasha fighting game! I like the series and one of the movies, but someone would have to tie me to a chair, make me take drugs, and crazy-glue the palms of my hands to a video game controller to make me play those awful types of games.

Well, you have a point there... But that was the golden 16-bit age of video games. That game is a bizzach to play on a keyboard!

lol...my oh my....did'nt realise many ppl would participate in this topic...
well just for the record, I'm not mixing up soccer with anime...those are just 2 of my favourite things in the world other than my lovable gal...Well I do agree that the barcelona and chelsea match rocks but unfortunately....Im a huge fan of LIVERPOOL.... been a supporter since the time I learn how to kick a ball! I could go on and on and on about my fav players and stuff bout liverpool but i guess its gonna bore u guys..haha...My favourite teams on national level are Argentina, England and Brazil.....those samba chicks are really hot by the way (",)
maybe i should put up a separate topic for soccer.....

As for anime....i have been hooked after watching a few episodes of Naruto...since then I have been constantly on the prowl for other animes and there ARE lot of good anime out there....I'll put up my list of anime soon i hope...

I hope this topic will encourage u guys to post recomendations and reviews on anime or soccer....cheers

WTF is up with Benitez, man? Because of him, Dudek is losing form and he's gonna play bad during World Cup. Dudek wants to leave Liverpool and Benitez won't let him! And doesn't let him play either, even though he's their #1 goalkeeper :(

That's just bad sportmanship.

Oh and the Champions League final last year... oh man.. I had tears in my eyes, I swear. Half of Poland had tears in their eyes. The whole team coming back from 3:0 at half time, to tie at 3:3 at full time.. and going into penalties, Dudek finishing the job... brilliant team effort. Best game EVER.
