SIMPLE assembly

Post icon  Posted 08 January 2010 - 02:25 PM

Hello to you all,

does anyone know where i can find the syntax for SIMPLE assembly?

The aim of my assignment is to write a two pass assembler for an extended SIMPLE instruction set. Then write and test programs in SIMPLE assembly. A final part is to write an emulator for the SIMPLE machine (replacing the one provided).

The assembler must be written in C language but I suppose that I should know how to write code SIMPLE assembly to do that, right???

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I'm unfamiliar with SIMPLE assembly is it different then the regular assembly syntax? If it's not too different and if it's just as old you may find more help in the Assembly Forum.

I really have not a clue!!! I just copy-paste the first 3-4 lines of the assignment to get some guidance where to look//search fore more information... There is no way doing anything in two weeks time... that's for sure...

I Think what GenHornet18 is trying to say is that there are many types of assembly, but all that you have said is "Simple Assembly" which isn't any type.

There are all kinds off assemblers for all kinds of processors. But the most common are :

x86
MIPS
Z80
6502

Also, this topic should be started under the assembly forum.

But I'll move it there for you.

Thank you a lot. I am really new to programming so I can't say more to be helpful.
I don't want to be misunderstood because I am not searching for "how to do my assignment" or specifically a solution...

http://www.cs.bris.a...assignment.html

this is a link which says what i have to do. It says SIMPLE assembly as I said earlier..

The instruction set is a few paragraphs down on the page you provided, in bolded letters. It reads: The Instructions

I guess so, because I couldn't find anything for "SIMPLE assembly" on Google, and your teacher would have to be pretty harsh to make you create an assembly language to their specifications without even giving you the syntax :)

They way I see it,
it's way too much to ask from a student `to implement something like this and have only taught him for 3h/week for 4 weeks. This is a master (taught postgraduate) and feel like researching to find the way out.... way over my abilities!!!

And what exactly do you mean by that??? I am sorry, my native language is not English so it is a little difficult to understand your meaning...

You mean The Instructions part or the Assembly Language with the permitted lines??
