vb.net launcher app to launch games

Post icon  Posted 10 January 2010 - 12:31 PM

Good day people,

i need help with a vb.net program i am making for myself. i replied in another topic but got the idea that people did not understood me well enough abouth what my plan was with the program.

the thing is that i am creating a little launcher shell that will start on a lan-party computer full with games.
all the things i am doing with it is for my own use only and will not be used for harmfull stuff.
in the other topic i got the intention that they thought i was a cracker of hacker or something.

im am just creating a launcher app that launches my games without the use of explorer.exe to be loaded with windows.

i have done several things to try to load a game when i press a button but they always crash. when i start the games normally there is no problem.
first i thought it needed the use of explorer.exe but when i tested my app with explorer.exe running i got the same result. so i think its my app that is causing the problem.

i have used this:
Process.Start("C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe")

and this:
Dim startInfo As System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo
			Dim pStart As New System.Diagnostics.Process

			startInfo = New System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo("C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Related Designs\ANNO 1404\Anno4.exe")

			pStart.StartInfo = startInfo
			pStart.Start()
			pStart.WaitForExit()

and:

Shell("C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe")

Could anyone who knows my problem point me in the right direction? i really want to get this working.

as for the people who replied in the other topic. the register files you have seen in my code was for activating the GameShell.exe to run as shell instead of the explorer.exe for the current user and for all users and to restore it to explorer.exe.

i hope i have explained myself enough to get some help on the net.

thanks in advance.
Roy

Ok with the Battlefield Engine its a very special engine which requires you to open its self in its own directory when you use Process.Start("BF2.exe"); Its opening it with arg's in the directory where your program is.

So in you will need to setup some start info options.
Dim proc As New System.Diagnostics.Process()
proc.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2"
proc.StartInfo.FileName = "BF2.exe"

And well to start it its really simple.

proc.Start()

If it doesnt work and im sure it will it probley my understanding of C# over VB.net.

Is your Lan Game distrobuting program available to see? i mean demo or source.
would love to see what other people come up with.

i am now implementing some gadgets and some simple info for the user when using a laptop, like battery status and wifi connections. i am using the my.settings for saving the where abouths of the games. works like a charm.
