Redmond?

Edit: Just exactly what is a perfect perfect? Sounds like something out of Beyond Thunderdome. By calling people who don't subscribe to your philosophy this, are you confessing that your programming style is flawed?

Redmond? REDMOND?? there are way better places than Redmond in the real world. Cattle systems. Township mapping application. Shipping systems. Plant management systems. Where you get to meet real people and learn something you'll never use again. Being able to hit the ground running in any application you encounter. Now that is better than Redmond.

Programming is the same way. You can write great programs in any robust language. VB6 is just fine, you can create great programs with it -- sure it may have its flaws but there is nothing the computer can do that can't be done in VB6, or C, or C++... Its all about what you as a programmer can do. VB6 tends to encourage some poor programming habits... but a good programmer can overcome the language.
Yup and until then the greatest program on the planet is a VB5 Visual Basic 5 application. Can you overcome your language? The code is there and it runs. What are you waiting for. Don't you like challenges?

Actually, it complains about a missing DLL when I try to open it.

The greatest program on the planet (SSDS) now runs on Windows 7

Here is the dll it needs
http://www.telusplan...an/msvbvm50.dll
just put it in the same folder as the search.

I have uploaded the latest version. It runs on Windows 7 so I imagine it will probably work for vista. (05March2010)

Ain't no Troll, I'm just trying to feed you some usefull knowledge.

hahahaha. I thought I was going to be able to stop reading this nonsense, but it's quite entertaining. IMO VB sucks. Plain and simple. He's a troll, and I'm going to enjoy feeding him. lol.

I read a part of your code, and a lot of it seems unnecessary. It's seems like you are trying to be smug about something that has already been created. A video and picture search? I can't even believe you would waste your time making this. If you had fun making this then good for you.

I have to agree with neotifa on this one. OOP is great for organization and [VB5] (!) died a long time ago. I can barely read your code, because it's so fucking spaghettified. How can you take pride in spaghetti code anyway?

Though I have to agree if your code can do what it says it can do in the comments of your program, I have to congratulate you. Good job. Now write it in C++ or C, so we can actually use it on something other than Windows.

I will eventually debug and look through all of the code you posted, but for now... no. I have no reason to use any of your code, because your code has already been made by other people. Wtf do you think Windows Media Player is? or better yet, Totem or Movieplayer...

Dealing with an internet troll wasn't so bad.

Sure it is messy NemosisSwamp and I'd clean it up if I felt motivated enough. SSDS can do a lot more than any of the other searches. Using the "Option" logic I can display a picture with the options listed on it. Turn left, go straight, turn right or go back Then play a short clip of the video going right, maybe another short clip half way to the next corner. Followed by the same left, right, back or straight selections.

It would be nice to see SSDS run on C++ or C. I'd start by taking the line wrap and hilite logic to just display search results. Then add the option to select a file from a list. Then build in the ability to display/play pictures, video and music. You'd end up with a lot cleaner SSDS/C than what we have right now.

Line Wrap / Hilite logic charts.

The above flowcharts correspond with the various line numbers that are in the VB5 program. This was by far the most difficult part of the program. After running it for a couple years. I spent 3 or 4 days flowcharting that logic so I could get it to work properly.

Spaghetti Code is only good with the proper Wine. I'm not sure that Wine even exists.
EDIT:
Ladies and Gentlemen, This post is a perfect example of why one should not post while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Actually, numerous alcoholic beverages in this case. For some unknown reason to me, the reply above was really humorous and witty sounding last night.

Just why is my reputation way way in the negative.

Another point. This source code has never destroyed any of my data in the last 10+ years. Never. You might have to hit Ctrl/Alt/Del now and again but I can guarantee that Swamp search keeps your notes safe. Maybe too safe.

My wish for this group is all a VB5 disk whereby you can jam and play with this Swamp Search spaghetti code like I do. When you got SSDS computing is fun. The code is there. The flowcharts are there. I have blabbed and blabbed all about it everywhere. What else would you need.
