@CTphpnwb: There's nothing against co-workers watching out for each other. So if we see something like that happen to another member, we can simply vote up to counter-act it, like Dogstopper did for me when someone voted me down for reiterating the rules.

The only (minor) complaints I'd have with the new reputation system is that (1) it removes the fun and pleasure of suddenly having a popup because somebody thanked you, and (2) I don't think there is a way of tracking where the + and - are coming from. In the case of minuses, I imagine you'd want to find out which post is the "offending" one, but I haven't figured out a way of doing this.

We'll be monitoring the reputation system closely in the coming weeks. I'm counting on you guys providing feedback on when you see what you feel is abuse, and when you see it working as well.

We are looking at removing the reputation system from the lounge.

We have the ability to turn off down voting entirely if it ends up being more problematic.

We also have the ability to limit down votes per day, or even make the down vote quota 0 for new members so they don't abuse the system until they understand how it works.

Once we get all the bugs worked out in the new forums, I'll be working with some developers on adding functionality to see which of YOURS post were voted up/down, which posts YOU voted up/down, what your up/down ratio is, and also the ability to see WHO voted your posts up/down by clicking the little number.

We will also look at prompting the user to leave a comment on your profile if they found a post helpful, or possibly creating a "reputation" digest PM/email that notifies you once a day about all the posts that were marked helpful.

Think of the new reputation system as a platform for many new things to come. We'll be able to build upon it.

We'll be gradually changing the design of things in the not too distant future and some of those features will include "your friends posts/topics", "your friends status", etc. making things a little more social here.

I have the post voting system in my forums but no2 said it was dumb. No one really uses it there anyways. (I also have coolness points :P)

I think there should be seperate numbers for the up votes and down votes. The numbers change, but say 3 people found that post useful, and 2 found it unuseful (or were being spiteful), the op would think that sort of post was only helpful for 1 person and probably wouldn't want to post anything like that again, even though it did help out several people. So yea, maybe put up votes above the + and down votes above the -.

The "advanced" and thread search is working now.

We'll be exploring some new search features including the Sphinx search engine which will improve results and make searching faster.

True enough, but what if that person votes you down again and again in the future and they're judicious about when they do it? Who will know, and how will they know? The old way, you got positive feed back for helping, but it wasn't so easy that anyone might click the thank you button. It had to be worth their time to click the thank you button, wait for the next page, and then submit the thank you. That meant something. It meant even more if they took the time to write a note. On the other hand, if you had to point out the rules to a freeloader they probably wouldn't thank you, but there couldn't be any repercussions. Now there can be.

I agree the old way carried more weight because it was a little tougher, but we want to encourage people to vote up posts so the RIGHT information will be evident and WRONG information will be labeled as such. I think for new members, they will probably be limited to just a couple down votes per day (maybe 3), this will quickly discourage down voting just to down vote.

We'll also create new user groups that can't down vote so people that abuse the system will not be able to down vote at all.

But read what I said earlier to understand what some of the future plans are. Making it easier to vote things up/down will allow us to better rank good and bad information. We'll encourage people to leave comments on your profile if they really appreciated the help. You can do the same by adding a note in your footer if you appreciate comments left in your profile.

@CTphpnwb: I think a member can only vote once per post. I think this combined with coworkers watching out for each other, and limitations placed by the DIC Team should help to balance things out.

Yes the sudden pop-up at the top saying "someone thanked you" really was cool! But with those limitations skyhawk said and the co-workers macosxnerd101 said, the voting system sounds a reasonable improvement.

Oh and another thing, do you plan to add a "Reputation: x" under the avatars in posts? it would be good I guess

Yes, already talking with a developer about this.

I'm getting lag on page load where there's any significant amount of code. Firefox almost goes into "Not responding" mode. Maybe it's just me?

Is there a way to get other users' list of contributions? It used to be "My Contributions" on the profile page, but there isn't an equivalent now. Unless I missed it, which is quite possible.

Same here, thought it was just my computer. Firefox freezes and gets up to about 90% CPU usage

Also, in the profile, the edit programming languages section instead of being a text box is a blank drop down menu?
