Hi DIC Heads!
I'm excited with all the changes and new features lately, and one of the things I'm most excited about is the reputation system. I want to briefly explain how the reputation system should be used and announce a couple new features.
Reputation is the evolution of the "Thanks" system. The old "Thanks" were merged in to the new reputation system and every post you or someone else ever "Thanked" reflects that as an "Up Vote". The total number of "Thanks" you had has been reflected in your Reputation since the upgrade a few weeks ago.
Reputation Etiquette
The Reputation system is mainly to recognize posts that were helpful, answer a question correctly, or something you agree with. We want you to vote a post up even if you weren't the person that started the thread because it will help people see which answers and posts were helpful.
You can also down-vote a post if you think it's wrong, breaks the rules, or doesn't really help (i.e. posts with just [ rules ], "google it", etc.)
New Reputation Features
Your reputation now appears below your username in each post. If it's a positive number, it'll be green, if it's "0" it'll be grey, if it's negative, it'll be red.
In the lower right corner of each post, if a post has reputation, you can now CLICK IT and see WHO voted for that post and if they voted up or down <--- AWESOME!!!!
And sometime in the next day or 3, you'll be able to go to your profile and under your reputation, you'll be able to view all the reputation you've received, and all the reputation you've given.
In the future, we'll be adding functionality to mark posts as "Solved" and if the person that started the thread, an admin, moderator, or mentor marks your post as the one that solved the question, you'll receive bonus reputation for the correct answer.
We'll also be moving away from "Top DIC Heads" and moving more toward a combination of Posts and reputation. If your posts have higher reputation, they'll count more towards your rank in the Top DIC Heads, so just posting crap isn't enough to get on the list.
So, in conclusion, vote for other peoples posts that are helpful, and ask them to return the favor. This will be an important part of dream.in.code going forward and we want you to start using this feature!
